Brimfield Antique Show

Brimfield Antique Show in Brimfield, Massachusetts is one of the biggest outdoor antique shows in US. I always want to pay a visit. There are only 3 shows a year, a week for each show. I finally made it there last May. It was a lot of fun!

Basically, there were several fields of vendors from all around the US along the Route 20. There were all kind of stuff being shown: old, new, reclaimed, odd, common, furniture, decoration, jewelries, big, small, etc. You name it! It’s very overwhelming at the beginning, after I parked my car to explore. There were just so many things to look at. I spent a good deal of the day just browsing from one field to another. I also got to talk to different vendors about what they were selling. It’s a great place for people and dog watching, too. There is a party atmosphere in the air.

I also ran into a vendor who was very friendly. Not only he showed me how much he made that week (a thick stack of cash…), he also let me watch him bargaining with his customers. He was really good with it. I had fun watching how he talked with the customers and made several sales in a short 15 minutes. He also explained some pieces (glass bottles, jewelries, etc.) that he has and why these pieces are valuable. It’s a science of its own when it comes to antiques.

I felt I have to buy something… After some browsing, soul-searching, and practicing my bargaining skill, I got two mirrors with the frames made by the antique tin ceiling tiles. They are very unique and I got some wall space for them. I checked their website afterward to compared the price that I paid for both of them. I think I got a good deal. Well, at least I think so! Okay, I thought about getting a deer head. I didn’t get it, which is the result of the soul-searching… They mirrors look very nice in my living room!
