Justin's Journey

After the late night bullfighting, I got a late start today. The breakfast at the hotel was very good and the service provided by the staff was excellent. I went out after a late breakfast and took the Metro to check out a couple of places.

My first stop was the local market. I am always curious what local do their shopping and what do they buy for food. It’s fun to walk around at the market. I then took the Metro to visit Castelo de Sāo Jorge. I didn’t realize it was up hill from the Metro station. So I took the advice from the tour guide and rode the tram, which was a lot of fun riding among narrow streets, up hill and down hill.

I took the guided tour provided by the castle to learn about castle. The whole tour last for more than an hour and the guide did a fantastic job of explaining how the castle was build and the history behind. The sun was bright and the temperature was high. It was challenging to stay out whole day in this kind of weather. There were so much to see around the castle that I became really good at finding the shade to avoid the sun. 🙂

For dinner, I went to a Portuguese restaurant with the performance of Fado, and traditional dance. I got a nice and hearty green cabbage soup. The main dish was octopus with vegetables cooked in a clay plate. I was surprised how meaty and rich the octopus was. The signing of Fido was hunting and relaxing. It’s like listening to Blues to me. The dance was very energetic alone with the music.

It’s a busy day since I got out of the hotel. I am ready for bed. On my way back to the hotel, there were lots of people still driving on the street. It’s common that people get their drink from the bar, hang out with the friends on the street, and talk. It’s a crazy scene!
