Mountain top – Marvão

It’s a long drive today. I arrived in Marvão this afternoon. It is a town situated right at the top of the mountain. On my way here, I stopped by Beja to visit Fabio. I met him at the beach in Sagres. He was at the beach with his family for a Sunday break. I asked him to take a picture of me and chatted with him. Apparently he is the manager of the Pousada in Beja. He gave me a personal tour of his beautiful Pousada. Architecturally it is very interesting. I also took a detour through the country side, going through Redondo and Estremoz. I can see the olive tress, vineyard, and open field passing by.

Marvão is an incredible beautiful town. The street is so narrow that I had to drive very carefully. The castle is amazing. I got to walk around a bit but the sun was really bright. I took a break and got cool down a little. There are only 4 restaurants in town. I think I picked the right one. I had chicken gizzard for appetizer and black port chops for dinner. Dessert is flan and a cup of espresso. The meal was great. I also tried to drink some local red wine withy the meal. Well, I can’t drink and only got to finish a half of glass. And I felt dizzy and my heart beats increased. Not a drinker! I managed to walk to the castle during sunset. The breeze and the sunset and the castle are absolutely peaceful. I decided to come back to the Pousada and rest. It’s not safe to walk along the edge of the castle (pretty sharp drop down the mountain) while I couldn’t walk straight. 🙂

It seems a peaceful trip in Portugal. If you try to find something exciting, go to Spain next July for Encierro – to run with lots of people in front of bulls!

Haha. After I saw how Portugese do their bull fighting, Spain bull fighting doesn’t look that tough!

Encierro is not bull fighting! It’s Running of the Bulls! Just run and run! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Running_of_the_Bulls

Running from the bulls is not as skillful as Portugal bull fighting… 🙂
