Being a responsible homeowner, with skilled friends :)

When I came back from the trip to NYC, I found out that a couple of pieces of my bamboo floor were discoloring and cracking near the refrigerator. It turned out that for some reasons, the water leaked into them. Doug came to rescue and checked it out, while my friend Greg stopping by and bringing some lunch. Fortunately, Doug returned the following week and replaced these pieces. He also checked on the water pipe for the refrigerator. Hopefully it won’t happen again!

There were some falling trees in the yard from the previous ice storm. One tree in the front yard was a bit big to be removed by hand. My friend Mark came over and helped me use the chainsaw. He chopped the big trees in the front while I removed the pieces. We also went to the backyard to take down some dead trees. He decided to teach me how to use it. I thought I got a good handle of it. When I tried to cut down a small tree, it fell toward me. I moved my chainsaw to the side in order to hold the tree. Mark was also being helpful to come over to hold the tree. Gosh. The chainsaw touch his jacket when it was stopping. I made a big cut of his jacket! You can imagine I was really freaking out. Mark on the other hand was very calm. Well, he did the rest of the cutting of the trees. I just didn’t want to use the chainsaw at all. Thanks Mark’s help. We also learned that don’t let Justin touch any power tools…

Talking about friends, Kevin who hooked up my stove when I replaced it two years ago stopped by. He was very exciting about me having some bottles of wines in the refrigerator. Some of you know that I don’t really drink alcohol and don’t have it usually. These were left over from previous dinner parties. Well, being helpful, he enjoyed a bottle of the white wine himself. He didn’t mind offering his help. πŸ™‚

One little gift I got for myself is a WiFi thermostats Nest. The installation was not too tough, thanks for my degree in Electrical Engineering. The unit is a pretty nest looking thing. It will learn my schedule for heating and cooling automatically, instead of requiring programming. I can also control it through my iPhone. What a nice geek toy to have. And it helps saving energy, too!

You are so lucky to have a group of handy friends to help you! I have ever rented a chainsaw from Home Depot to cut-n-trim the trees at my yard in 2012. After 5 hours physical labor, I could not manage my exhausted hands well for next 3 days. Fortunately you did not hurt Mark and you don’t need to touch power tools anymore….

Hi uncle, I still have the chainsaw since I own it! At least it’s a good one and my friends can help me use it (or just use it). πŸ™‚
