Driving to Tavira – castle, churches, pool, and dinner

After checked out the light house at the Cabo de Sāo Vincente, I left Sagres and headed to my next stop, Tavira. It is a small charming town. It’s situated at both sides of Rio Gilāo.

My lodging tonight is at the Pousada Convento da Graça. It’s another Pousada with its own charm. After I checked in, I went out and explored whatever I could run into by foot. The castle is sitting next to my Pousada. There are lot of churches since it was a very busy town a long time ago. It’s extremely hot today but I managed to walk around under the shadow of buildings and trees. I came back to the Pousada and jumped into the pool. Boy, it feels good!

I went to a restaurant on the other side of the river. It’s a local Portuguese restaurant. Because it is Sunday, the fishermen have a break, which means no fresh fish today. I followed the recommendation from the waitstaff. I got baby squid for appetizer and leg of lamb for main dish. I got the honey pudim and a cup of espresso for dessert. I tried to drink a bottle of beer but only managed to finish 1/4 of it. og, well. Not a drinker here! It’s a relaxing and calming day at a beautiful town.

The cooking of baby squid is like what we have in Taiwan. It’s my favorite dish. Yummy!

The baby squid was very good. They did a great job of cooking them. The squids were very tender.
