I am really glad Cathy & Dennis, Sharon & Dennis, Janet & Jen made it to my place for the Chinese New Year dinner today. I was wondering if the snow storm might prevent them coming…
I realized yesterday that I didn’t have a pot big enough to put in 8 cornish game hens. After the traffic ban from the snow storm was lifted yesterday at 4pm, I went out and got a big pot. I was ready to go today! It took me longer than I thought to prepare for the food. Fortunately, everything went well at the end. Especially, everyone was very helpful to get the dinner ready, get the fire place going, serving the drinks, and fun to hang out with!
Everyone got a little cup of warm apple cider to get started. There were soy beans, truffle pate and crackers, fish crackers, maple syrup roasted peanuts, sauté shrimps, and dried apricots for appetizers. With the fire place going and music in the background, it was very pleasant to talk to everyone and get to know everyone. The main course started with the wild baby arugula salad with cara orange, dressed by champagne vinegar and olive oil, topped with sliced almond. The main dish was slow-cooked cornish game hens with rainbow carrots, patriot potatoes, onion, mushroom, celery, green beans, and a bottle white wine. It’s a hearty winter dish. Perfect for the cold weather. 🙂
For desserts, Janet and Jen brought some cookies. Along with the chocolate cream pie freshly made by the local farm stand that I got today, we all sat on the tea room floor and enjoyed the conversation. As much as I enjoyed the food, I really had a wonderful time talking with everyone. Thanks for joining in for the dinner – what a nice group of people!
Happy Chinese New Year!
I am much interested in the main dish. It’s quite different from what we have in Taiwan. Looks so nice and must be good to health. But I doubt: Did everyone finish one hen?
It’s a good winter dish. No, it’s probably more French than Chinese. Most folks finished the whole hen. It’s not a big bird… 🙂 Happy New Year!
