The last day of the trip is eventful…

This is a pretty tough posting for me to write. I was planning to check out a couple of of places, and headed to Vatican city around noon. The lady at the hotel told me that the pope would address at noon on Sunday mass. However, my plan got derailed.

As I left the hotel this morning, I realized that I didn’t have my wallet. Than it hit me that on my way back to the hotel last night, I stopped by and picked up a bottle of ice tea at a local store. It was less than a half block from my hotel. A guy grabbed me and got really close to me after I walked out of the store, and I quickly pushed him back. I typically would check my pocket but I was really exhausting, just trying to leave him behind. Well, my wallet got stolen. So I spent a good part of the morning to call the credit card companies to cancel my cards. My driver license and my Taiwanese ID, along with cash and other things are all gone. Fortunately, I have my passport at a separate bag, and some cash. I should be able to head home without problem. I can’t believe this happened on my very last day of the trip. Well, I got to experience the Italian police station when I went to fill a report. Talking about unexpected experience.

After I did all I could, I decided not to let it ruin my trip. I went to a couple of places to get a good sample of Rome: Trevi fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and slowly migrated to Vatican city. When I arrived, it was already in the afternoon after the mass. I guess the pope won’t see me until my next trip to Rome. 🙂 All of these places are just grand. I hope I will have a chance to spend more time and explore Rome more. It’s an incredible city. And… I will be careful with my wallet!

Many people had such bad experience in Rome! But you did right:…not to let it ruin my trip…! I am surprised you eventually visited many places in short time. Yes, Rome is incredible and I will visit again, too. Bon Voyage!

fortunately, it was only your wallet that was lost, and that you weren’t hurt. it’s good that you were able to act quickly and contact all of your banks right away. It’s a reminder to all of us that we should be prepared when we travel, to keep all important numbers listed in the event that we too have our things stolen.

What I learned: assume you will loose everything, and don’t worry about it if it happens….
