I got a half day to spend in Venice before I took the train to Florence. I decided to take a walk in the maze of Venice. I checked out the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Salute and the Collezione Peggy Guggenheim. The church was much quieter than other places, which gave me a chance to appreciate the architecture. The floor pattern is very interesting. After I walked to the tip of the island/region Giudecca (where I took the picture of a sculpture of a boy holding a frog; sorry, the security guard said he couldn’t step too far away from the sculpture). The Guggenheim museum opens later in the morning. I went there and really enjoyed the collections. Compared to other museums in the city, there are mainly modern arts in the Guggenheim museum. I was surprised how extensive the collections are, in a relatively small space. You can find art work by Henry Moore, Dali, Picasso, Klee, Pollock, etc. Hey, be respectful to one of the sculptures (someone on a horse). The title is The Angel of the City by Marino Marini. I thought it’s very nice with a good sense of humor. 🙂 I really like the Guggenheim museum. After I had my big meal of the day for lunch (pasta with mussels, grilled sea bass with polenta) in Venice, I took the train to Florence.
It was evening when I arrived Florence. I walked around to get familiar with the city. The Duomo at night is amazing to look at. Very interesting patterns outside of the church. A light meal with pizza got me ready for bed. Florence is much layback than Milan. Although there are lots of tourists, I look forward to exploring it more tomorrow.
The white boy with the frog…..
That could be me. Bacause of body size:)))))
Yeah… You are over 6.5 feet!
Really good sense of humor as googled:…….Marino Marini, who completed the statue in 1948, was ordered to use a detachable penis that could be removed to spare the blushes of passing young ladies. However, this detachable penis has now been welded in place in order to prevent its theft…….
Ah… Uncle, good detective work. 🙂
Venice! Italy! gelato! pasta! Great photos and storyline. We stayed near San Marco when we were in Venice and Darren loved the fact we were right where one of James Bond’s famous scenes took place. Didn’t get to Florence – Darren & Kyle wouldn’t have the patience. Have to go back. I could live in Italy. Totally jealous. But,am booked for Kripalu end of November!
Venice and Florence have such different characters. I would love to visit Tuscany again. Hope you will enjoy Kripalu!
